Dear Colleagues,
I warmly welcome you to the 10th annual Australian Securitisation Forum Conference, ABS l 2011. It promises to be a highly stimulating and productive collaboration of our industry with an opportunity to develop new contacts and reinforce existing relationships.
Brave New World is the theme of the conference which acknowledges the progress of Australian securitisation and the fragile state of global securitisation markets three years on from the onset of the financial crisis.
While success has been achieved in reinvigorating the local investor base we need to work through the challenge of expanding the market by bringing back overseas investors and addressing structural changes such as the repricing of risk, increased regulatory and prudential requirements affecting securitisation. This year also represents a milestone for Australia’s secured funding market with the passing of amendments to the Banking Act which permits Australian banks to issue covered bonds. The development of a covered bond market will add to the diversity of Australia’s bond market.
Accordingly, the ASF, with our leading sponsors, has brought together industry leaders and investors to this conference to discuss and debate the issues confronting both issuers and investors in 2012. The agenda committee containing industry leaders has assisted in building the program and to ensure that the conference remains to its original values of ‘by the industry; for the industry.’
The 2011 conference sessions will involve several leaders addressing current issues as well as a wide range of networking opportunities.
